End of the Year

Wow, what a year! Those years working hard in college, losing sleep and money, stressing over juries and barriers, all the band practices and sectionals, summer band heat, Dr. Hansen's music theory class... I had no idea it would be this rewarding in the end. I have the best job in the world. This has been an amazing first year of teaching, and I look forward to the many years ahead. Shout out to all of my music students, especially Everett third graders who are leaving me next year. Have a great summer!

Cut the Cake

Cut the Cake

Second graders were really hungry, so we “Cut the Cake.”

First we started off with a fun game about cake. Since it was such a nice day, we played the game outside.

Then we reviewed quarter rest, quarter note, and eighth note.

Next we read the book, A Cake All for Me, written by Karen Magnuson Beil

Then, we talked about measurements and applied this to music.

Finally, we got out the hand drums and practiced rhythms from these "cake" rhythm cards that I created.

As the students were leaving, I told them to go home and eat some cake!
